IkasuQuest

What is IkasuQuest?

IkasuQuest is a Boffer combat battle game for Ikasucon designed to evolve with the theme of the con each year.

The Theme of this year will be “Random Encounters.” All sessions will be open-sparring, monitored by dedicated Battle Masters.

Basic Rules Of Combat
  • All IkasuQuest participants must obey all instructions and rulings from Battle Masters and Ikasucon staff members.
  • All participants must follow the Ikasucon general Code of Conduct.
  • A Legal Hit: Any hit with a boffer that stops or deflects at an angle unless otherwise noted by a Battle Master. (Battle Master’s word is final.)
    • Hit Locations
      • Head and Neck: Will not count as a hit and are illegal. Deliberately parrying or blocking with the head or neck is also prohibited.
      • Arm: The first hit to the arm will result in loss of that limb (The arm is now “wounded”). That arm must then be held behind your back and not used. A second successful strike to the arm will result in death (in essence, your arm has been “severed” and you bleed out). Hits to the hand count as a hit to the arm unless you are wielding a boffer in that hand. Hits to the wrist will count as hit to the arm.
      • Leg: A hit to the leg will result in loss of the use of that leg (the leg is now “wounded”). You must drop to one knee as soon as is feasible and the wounded leg’s knee must remain on the ground. Following hits to the wounded knee have no effect. Crawling, dragging or being carried are the only ways to move with a wounded leg. Hopping on one leg is NOT allowed.
      • Torso: (Includes shoulders, chest, back, buttocks and groin) A hit to the torso will result in instant death.
      • Feet: Hits to the feet do not count if they are on the ground when struck; otherwise they count as hits to the leg.
  • Any two hits to limbs (except two shots to a wounded leg) will result in death. (Example: you are hit once in each arm, or once in an arm and once in a leg.)
  • Hits that only connect with costume or clothing do not count, unless the costume or clothing were used to intentionally block the hit or would have hit a legal hit location. (Example: A sword sheath on your hip that would block a torso hit clocks as legal, and would result in the player’s “death.”)
  • Hits that nick or lightly glance off will not count as a legal hit. (See rule 2 above.)
  • Projectiles that nick or lightly glance off still count as legal hits.
  • Hits that knock aside a parry and then hit the target are legal hits.
  • Players may not wield more than one weapon in a single hand.
  • Grappling or wrestling with other players is forbidden.
  • Keep within the approved field of play. Do not run into walls or other barriers.
  • If it is unclear whether a hit was a legal hit, assume that it was. Endeavor for fair play for the respect of your fellow players.
  • Do not call another player’s hits unless you are a Battle Master. If you find there is a problem with a player not taking their hits properly, inform a Battle Master.
Players who consistently break the rules, show bad sportsmanship, or disrespect players and/or staff will be asked to leave the event and may be barred from playing again.
  • Death: When a player dies during a game they are to hold their weapon over their head and in a clear calm voice call “DEAD” and walk off the field. The Battle Master will give instructions to the dead player after that point.
  • Hold: When a Battle Master or staff member calls a “HOLD,” all combat must immediately stop. Players are to hold their boffers over their heads quietly and wait until they are permitted to continue. Failure to respect a hold call will result in removal from the game.
  • Closed-toe shoes and a shirt must be worn at all times.
